Surprisingly, American Companies Can Make A Good Car
The use of TARP money to temporarily bailout the American auto industry has stirred up a lot of strong emotions while brand reputation has taken quite a hit from all the years of bad management and the firestorm of negative press brought on by union disputes. However, the biggest accusation against Detroit has been its inability to build high quality fuel efficient cars that people actually want to buy.
Is it Really So Bad to Be Alive?
It’s no secret that the past few months have been kind of rough. A global economic crisis has been devouring jobs, a rapidly expanding piracy problem has reared its ugly head, and terrorist attacks in Mumbai have seriously complicated a conflict between three countries with nuclear weapons. If you are not at least a little worried about the barrage of bad news, you probably should be. Yet as scary as things are, and there is no doubt that things are scary, I am still feeling pretty good about life right now. While it is easy to worry about all the things that could go wrong, anything but optimism is impossible when I look at all of good things going on around me. Let me explain.

As much as I would love to stir up the emotions of the Mac vs. PC die hards, I’m not about to start a pointless argument about which is better. It never amounts to anything and frankly it doesn’t matter to me what other people choose to spend their money on. I will however point out that Apple’s obsession with building computers with great music and entertainment functionality has created what is possibly the greatest opportunity ever to harmlessly prank and annoy large numbers of people.

I wish I could explain this one to you guys but I can’t. I watched this guy dressed up in a Batman costume ride his “Bat Bike” in circles through Times Square. I was able to get this shot when he showed up a little later on 42nd St. Sorry for the crappy photo. This was the best my phone could do.

While sifting through some of the old photographs saved on my computer, I found something that I thought was worth sharing. You see, back when I was an obnoxious high school student, I partook in an amazing prank orchestrated by one of my teachers. It is amazing what you can do with free labor, (what student wouldn’t want to help teachers prank eachother?) and 10,000 dixie cups.
6 Features the Big Three Should Have Put in Every Car
So the big three are a little bit screwed right now. If they are going to survive, they are going to need either a massive government loan (no comment) or a massive increase in the demand for their cars. The sad fact of the matter is though that due to decades worth of poor product decisions, that demand simply doesn’t exist. Even though the big three are finally beginning to offer competitive vehicles, the perception of quality just isn’t there. The thing is though that there is a huge gap in the market that no car company, not even Honda or Toyota, has been able to fill. What I am trying to say is that although there are companies that are building great cars, there are no companies building cars with the features that I really want.
